SummaryThe Business Intelligence Engineer is a technical specialist responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing BI solutions across both modern and legacy platforms. This includes building and managing semantic models, pipelines, and dashboards, while also supporting SQL queries, stored procedures, SSIS packages, and legacy reports. The ideal candidate thrives in hybrid environments and is passionate about helping business teams unlock value from data.
Responsibilities- Design, build, and optimize enterprise-scale Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations that deliver actionable, high-impact insights to the business.
- Develop, manage, and performance-tune robust Microsoft Fabric semantic models, serving as the "single source of truth" for all business reporting.
- Write and optimize complex DAX queries and Power Query transformations to support all reporting and analytical needs.
- Partner directly with business teams (e.g., Finance, Business Development, Operations) to gather requirements, document workflows, and translate complex business logic into technical specifications and data models.
- Champion, deliver, and promote self-service data solutions. Conduct training sessions, build report templates, and mentor users on BI best practices.
- Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancement for legacy SSRS reports as we transition to the modern Fabric platform.
- Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of all reports through thorough self-review, validation against source data (Azure SQL, Azure Postgre
SQL), and user acceptance testing. - Act as the company's "go-to" expert on Power BI best practices, data storytelling, and effective data visualization techniques.
Education and Experience
- 5+ years of progressive experience in Business Intelligence, reporting, or data analytics.
- Expert-level development skills in Power BI, including advanced DAX, Power Query, data modeling, and dashboard performance optimization.
- Hands‑on experience building and managing Microsoft Fabric semantic models (formerly Power BI Datasets).
- Strong proficiency in SQL for querying complex datasets.
- Proven ability to lead requirements‑gathering sessions, understand complex business problems, and translate them into technical solutions.
- Excellent communication and data storytelling skills, with a proven ability to articulate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Experience maintaining and supporting SSRS reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Python for data analysis or automation.
- Knowledge of data governance practices and version control (e.g., Git for BI assets.
- Experience with Azure Dev Ops (or similar Agile tools).
This position may require business travel, including frequent travel outside the local area and overnight stays.
Physical DemandsThe role is largely sedentary but requires regular standing, typing, operating telephones, computers, and audio headphones. Walking on level surfaces, reaching above shoulder heights, and lifting as needed may occur throughout the work day.
