Position: Intern – Land Use and Mobility Options (Summer)

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Dallas-Fort Worth region, which is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States.

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a summer Intern to support areas of planning, research, and data analysis for projects related to land use, zoning, housing, and/or bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure. This internship will provide a student with valuable experience in the areas of planning for livability and multimodal transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Ideal candidates should live within the Dallas-Fort Worth Region and be able to work at least 20–25 hours a week from approximately mid-May to mid-August 2026. Continuing employment opportunities may be available for Interns who are successful in this position and live in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Responsibilities
  • Working with supervisor to compile and summarize project information for planning studies
  • Assisting with the collection, processing, and analysis of land-use, transportation, and demographic data
  • Entering data and maintaining spreadsheets, files, and other information systems
  • Working with supervisor to create and edit maps, and process spatial and tabular data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS/ESRI ArcGIS Pro)
  • Drafting and preparing reports, presentations, checklists, documents, public outreach content, and education materials for supervisor review
  • Working with supervisor to perform quality control on completed work
Required Skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Basic knowledge of GIS principles and the ESRI ArcGIS Pro platform
  • Good communication, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills, with ability to listen to instructions, coordinate with other team members, and present ideas
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to handle multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline driven environment without diminishing quality of work
  • Good analytical skills, with ability to identify data discrepancies

Education and Experience
  • Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
  • No work experience required
  • At least one year of school-related experience
Starting Salary

Minimum of $17.10 per hour
