** JOB SUMMARY
** Under general supervision, serve as a non-sworn, uniformed emergency responder who supplements sworn police officers in the investigation of offenses against state law and city ordinances. Conducts initial investigations of property crimes and collects evidence where appropriate and performs duties in support of patrol operations as specified in policy.## ## ##

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Complete preliminary investigations and submit appropriate reports on community calls for police service where suspect contact is unlikely. Such investigations include but are not limited to commercial burglaries, residential burglaries, motor vehicle burglaries, motor vehicle thefts and recovered vehicles, criminal mischief, found/lost property, graffiti, animal ordinance violations and fireworks.
* Conduct field interviews with victims, witnesses, and suspects. Collect and properly submit evidence including but not limited to latent fingerprints and digital media.
* Identify, handle, and resolve parking violations and properly abate abandoned vehicles in accordance with Texas Law, City Ordinance, Special Orders, and General Orders. Resolution includes vehicle owner contact and education, issuing citations, and vehicle impoundment when appropriate.
* Safely tow, deploy, and recover a variety of force multipliers in the field.
* Properly operate a heavy-duty truck while on patrol and to various emergency calls for service.
* Work the following calls for police service: minor accidents, specified hit-and-run accidents and assist traffic/motorists.
* Conduct message deliveries, video recording pick-ups, and pawn shop holds.
* Assist commissioned officers with major accidents, critical incidents, non-violent welfare checks, and lost/found child calls for service.
* Conduct an independent and timely inventory management control of durable patrol equipment. Items include police technology, vehicle keys, city cellphones, weapons, lidar/radar and monitored expendable items. Report inventory deficiencies and restock expendable supplies. Clean and prepare durable items for field use.
* Safely handle and store firearms.
* Effectively coordinate with various support divisions to efficiently implement improvements, updates, and installations of police technologies, gear, and vehicles.
* Provide sworn testimony during court appearance in both municipal and county courts.##
** OTHER

JOB FUNCTIONS:

*** Mitigate road hazard vehicle services for both police personnel and members of the community. Such services include jump-starts, refueling, tire inflation and coordination of vehicle towing the contract wrecker service.
* Exhibit scheduling flexibility based upon the operational needs of the Patrol Bureau.
* Transport and/or deliver Patrol Bureau paperwork and implements to appropriate locations throughout the city.
* Take statements during calls for service and assist with investigations as needed.
* Identify and recover property through pawn shop procedures, consent to search, and search warrants.##

* Knowledge of investigative practices and methods.
* Knowledge of laws relating to search and seizure, arrest and the rules of evidence.
* Knowledge of court decisions concerning admissibility of testimony and confessions.
* Knowledge of interrogation and interview techniques and methods.
* Knowledge of the proper procedures for the identification and preservation of evidence.
* Skill to interpret and understand criminal and traffic laws, Code of Criminal Procedure, city ordinances, city Personnel Policies and Procedures, and police department policies and procedures.
* Skill in recording and organizing data.
* Skill in identifying and using potential sources of data.
* Skill in making independent judgments.
* Skill in securing physical evidence.
* Skill in following and presenting oral and written instructions.
* Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including, but not limited to personal computer, terminal, telephone, copier and fax machine.
* Ability to enter and retrieve data from computer systems.
* Ability to communicate in writing and orally.
* Ability to communicate by way of two-way radio.
* Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with other agencies and the general public.
* Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to filing, sorting, and stooping.## ## ##

Education and Experience:

*** A high school education or equivalent.
* Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class
