Job Summary

The Assistant Director for Student Organizations is responsible for the management of the registered student organizations program. This includes overseeing the daily services offered by the Student Organizations office such as front‑desk customer service, student employee supervision, event registrations, reservations, flyer posting approval, education and enforcement of university policies, and advisement and consultation for students involved in organizations. The role also interprets university policy regarding freedoms of speech, expression, and assembly while serving as an advocate for student learning and development.

Additionally, the Assistant Director oversees graphic designers for Involvement & Engagement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • One (1) year of experience in coordinating and developing student organization services.
  • An equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar roles may also be accepted.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in coordinating, advising, and developing student activities and organization programs.
  • Professional experience with understanding of student development theory, organizational development, student learning outcomes, and assessment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the registered student organizations program (formation, re‑registration, policy enforcement, programming advisement/consultation).
  • Review, approve, and consult on student organization events and activities.
  • Supervise Free Speech Process and initiatives and campus event resources for student organizations.
  • Supervise the Student Organization Program Coordinator position.
  • Facilitate outdoor event space management.
  • Manage developmental and compliance education and training for students involved in organizations.
  • Oversee communications for student organizations (newsletters, approval of postings).
  • Assist with organizations programming (e.g., Activity Fair, orientation, homecoming).
  • Assess the Registered Student Organization (RSO) program through administrative and student learning outcomes.
  • Supervise the student graphic design team of Involvement & Engagement.
  • Perform other duties assigned:
    • Conduct hearing officer duties.
    • Participate in Student Affairs committees.
    • Miscellaneous assignments.
