About

The Role

Upchurch is expanding its Learning & Development capabilities through Upchurch University and building scalable, high-quality training that supports field and office employees across all business units. The Content Developer plays a key role in designing clear, engaging learning materials for technical, safety, leadership, and operations-based training. This role blends instructional design expertise with strong visual development and collaboration across construction operations.

Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Learning Development

  • Design and develop interactive eLearning, microlearning, and blended learning experiences that support technical, safety, operational, and leadership training across all Upchurch business units.
  • Build complete instructor-led training (ILT) packages including facilitator guides, participant guides, slide decks, structured activities, and discussion-based exercises.
  • Create digital learning materials such as job aids, workflows, decision trees, knowledge checks, assessments, videos, animations, and interactive simulations.
  • Convert complex construction workflows, processes, and technical concepts into clear, accessible training content using strong instructional design methodology.
  • Maintain a consistent instructional style, tone, and brand presence across all learning assets within Upchurch University.
Collaboration & Content Gathering

  • Partner closely with SMEs, Operations leadership, technical trainers, and Safety to gather accurate content, validate details, and understand work processes.
  • Facilitate structured content-working sessions to extract technical knowledge, map processes, and clarify expectations.
  • Build strong relationships across business units to ensure training materials reflect real-world field and office conditions.
Project & Process Support

  • Manage multiple development projects from intake → scoping → script/storyboard → build → pilot → revision → deployment.
  • Maintain documentation, version control, and organized file systems to ensure consistency and scalability of learning content.
  • Establish and maintain development timelines that support broader training implementation schedules.
Quality, Testing & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct pilots, gather learner feedback, and apply improvements to refine clarity, usability, and effectiveness of training materials.
  • Ensure content is accurate, up to date, and aligned with evolving field practices, safety standards, and company processes.
  • Collaborate with the L&D Director to standardize content formats, templates, and best practices across Upchurch University.
Learning Technology & LMS Support

  • Upload, test, and publish eLearning, ILT materials, assessments, and resources within the LMS.
  • Troubleshoot issues, ensure content compatibility, and monitor engagement metrics to improve learner experience.
  • Help maintain a growing digital content library organized by topic, trade, and level of learning.
Qualifications

Required

  • 2–5+ years of instructional design or content development experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with Articulate Storyline and Rise.
  • Experience developing instructor-led training (ILT) materials.
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex or technical concepts.
  • Strong organization and project management abilities.
  • Experience collaborating with field, operations, and technical teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to job sites, training sessions, and business units.
Preferred

  • Construction industry experience (MEP, GC, subcontractor).
