Overview
Magnet Medical is seeking a travel nurse RN Labor and Delivery for a travel nursing job in Johnson, Arkansas.
Responsibilities- Pre-Labor and Admission Assessment:
Assess and monitor the health of pregnant women at various stages of labor; gather health histories, vital signs, and physical assessments; perform non-stress tests (NSTs), monitor fetal heart tones, and evaluate uterine activity; educate patients on labor and delivery processes, pain management options, and what to expect during childbirth. - Labor Support and Monitoring:
Monitor labor progress; administer medications (epidurals, Pitocin, and other pain relief options) as prescribed and monitor their effects; provide continuous emotional support and pain management during the labor process; assist with amniotomy and other procedures as directed by the healthcare team. - Assisting with Delivery:
Assist obstetricians or midwives during vaginal deliveries; participate in cesarean section procedures and provide immediate newborn care after birth. - Postpartum Care:
Monitor mother and newborn postpartum health and recovery; assist with breastfeeding support and newborn care education. - Documentation and Reporting:
Document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient progress in the electronic health record (EHR); maintain accurate records of labor and delivery processes. - Collaboration and Communication:
Work with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other healthcare team members; communicate clearly with patients and families and obtain informed consent when necessary. - Infection Control and Safety:
Follow infection control procedures and ensure equipment is properly sterilized and functioning, including fetal monitoring devices, IV pumps, and delivery instruments. - Emergency and High-Risk Situations:
Recognize signs of complications and initiate appropriate interventions; respond to obstetric emergencies and manage high-risk conditions using established protocols. - Patient Education and Advocacy:
Educate patients and families about labor, delivery options, newborn care, and postpartum recovery; advocate for informed decision-making.
