Job Summary:
The Sanitation Supervisor directs and supervises the cleaning of plant production equipment and the facility to ensure compliance with food safety requirements mandated by federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Tyson Foods’ standards. This role ensures adherence to company policies and procedures, maintains sanitation quality and departmental efficiency at or above standards, and supports continuous improvement in Food Safety and Quality programs.
- Oversee day-to-day sanitation of equipment and facility
- Train, plan, assign, and direct work for sanitation employees
- Appraise employee performance; reward and discipline as necessary
- Address employee complaints and resolve problems promptly
- Develop and document cleaning procedures such as SSOPs (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) and cleaning logs
- Train and document sanitation workers on safe operation and disassembly of equipment
- Ensure compliance with all safety rules and standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ensure food safety and quality control specifications are consistently met
- Enforce compliance with all company GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices)
- Develop, maintain, and comply with the Master Sanitation Schedule
- Systematically develop clear, well-defined cleaning procedures for all equipment and facility areas
- Collaborate with management and chemical suppliers to improve sanitation processes and reduce costs
- Protect product integrity during sanitation activities
- Supervise, motivate, and train sanitation production workers
- Coordinate sanitation and some production activities within the plant
- Work closely with R&D and Quality Assurance on sanitation issues related to production, new products, and special runs
- Coordinate with Maintenance to address machinery, pump, and mill issues
- Ensure quality, productivity, and food safety standards are met
- Work independently and as part of a team on special projects, both ongoing and nonrecurring
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Minimum 2 years of manufacturing experience in the food industry; sanitation experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as MSDS, safety rules, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write reports and compute rates, ratios, and percentages for preparing cleaning chemicals
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
- HACCP certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years in a similar role or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Skilled in analytical, critical, inductive, and deductive reasoning
- Effective time and scheduling management skills; adaptable and flexible
- Occasionally required to conduct meetings or lead group discussions
