Food Service

The Child Nutrition Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of the district’s child nutrition program to ensure the provision of nutritious, cost-effective, and compliant meals for students. This includes menu planning, budget management, compliance with state and federal regulations, staff supervision, and promoting healthy eating habits among students.

• Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent (required);
  Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
• Knowledge: USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and other federal/state child nutrition programs.
• Experience: Managing budgets, procurement, and inventory in a food service environment.
• Supervisory
  
  Experience:
  
  Previous supervisory experience, including staff training and development.
• Certifications & Licenses: Serv Safe Food Protection Manager Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire);
  Arkansas Department of Education Child Nutrition Director Certification (preferred or required within a specified timeframe).
• Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for training and district needs.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition, meal planning, and dietary guidelines for children.
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations regarding school meal programs.
  • Proficiency in budget management, cost control, and food service operations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage staff and work with students, parents, and school administrators.
  • Ability to use technology and software for menu planning, reporting, and compliance documentation.
  • Problem‑solving skills to handle food service challenges, including staffing, inventory shortages, and compliance issues.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards, including HACCP procedures.
• Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods in a kitchen environment.
  • Exposure to kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces, sharp objects, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment, especially during meal service times.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
