HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer

Summary/PurposeConduct energy audits for members. Advise and assist members with HVAC Systems. Investigate and resolve member billing issues and problems. Perform some marketing activities.
Typical Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following are the typical duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties and may include other duties as assigned. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of NAEC. All employees are expected to work in a safe manner and follow all safety rules and regulations at all times.

Typical responsibilities include:
- Conducts energy audits for residential and commercial members to efficiently utilize energy.
- Conducts blower door tests as required by RESP loans and as requested by members.
- Advise members on energy‑efficient practices including appliances and weatherization.
- Provides assistance to members regarding energy use, HVAC equipment, lighting and electrical appliances, technical advice and written materials.
- Explain the RESP loan program.
- Works with commercial and industrial accounts in determining potential energy efficiencies.
- Investigates and analyzes high‑bill complaints, including investigation of records and testing of equipment/appliances. Communicates results to consumers.
- Works with HVAC dealers and contractors to promote heat pumps.
- Volunteers and serves as official of various organizations, such as heat pump associations and homebuilders associations.
- Conducts or assists with group presentations on energy related topics to civic clubs and schools.
- Set up and work in display booth at home shows and county fairs.
- Performs/assists with safety demonstrations.
- Assists with annual meeting planning and other related events.
- Calculates zero usage for members.
- All other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience- Associate degree or technical certification with equivalent experience.
- Five to seven years’ experience, specifically with HVAC, plumbing and electrical knowledge.
- Must have Certified Energy Audit license or be able to obtain one within one year of being in role.
- Ability to write/complete complex reports.
- Strong math skills, including algebra.
- Computer literate with working knowledge of word processing, databases and spreadsheets.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, members and the general public.
- Ability to solve problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to interact with members and other employees in a courteous and proper manner.
- Ability to project a favorable image for the Cooperative.
- Ability to plan work independently.
- Thorough knowledge of the Cooperative standards applying to employee’s work.
- Knowledge of basic heat pump operation.
- Knowledge of blueprint reading sufficient to interpret and apply information from drawings, instruction manuals and one‑line diagrams, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of the territory in which employee operates, the Cooperative facilities therein, and the principal members’ connections thereto.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Should have good working knowledge of all Cooperative policies and procedures and Service Rules and Regulations and Rates.
- Ability to accomplish a variety of projects simultaneously within established deadlines.
