Speech Therapist
The Speech Therapist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with speech, language, voice, communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. The therapist provides evidence-based interventions and collaborates with physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, social workers, and family members to support the patient’s recovery and overall quality of life. Services are provided in accordance with applicable professional standards, hospital policies, and regulatory guidelines.
Responsibilities- Evaluate and diagnose communication, cognitive-communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders in patients across the lifespan.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnostic findings and patient needs.
- Provide therapy using evidence-based practices, including restorative and compensatory techniques.
- Educate patients and caregivers on therapy goals, treatment strategies, home exercises, and safety considerations.
- Document evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately and timely within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, rehabilitation team members, and dietitians to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care conferences to review patient progress and update care plans.
- Provide recommendations regarding communication support and swallowing precautions to enhance patient safety and outcomes.
