Job SummaryDesigns, develops and implements nondestructive testing (NDT) to evaluate the properties and conformance of a material, component or system without causing damage. Records, analyzes and reports test results. Writes testing plans and maintains test documentation in accordance with applicable regulations and requirements.
Impact of the Role- Requires full proficiency in a range of technical processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience
- Completes a variety of atypical assignments
- Works within defined technical processes and procedures or methodologies and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments
- Works with a limited degree of supervision, with oversight focused only on complex new assignments
- Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience
- Performs manual tasks according to established procedures
- Set up and standardize equipment, process parts, interpret and evaluate for acceptance or rejection, and document results.
- Develop specific calibrations and tests.
- Document results in accordance with the specification.
- Identifies errors and defects in equipment.
- Use of ultrasound, radiography, or other techniques during the testing process.
- Conduct system performance checks in accordance with the applicable process standard.
- Maintain or develop procedures, policies, and techniques as necessary.
- Train subordinate personnel in the various NDT disciplines and techniques.
- Maintain documentation for training and experience hours.
- Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 5-7 years experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
- Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Other: NAS 410 Certification Level 2:
State issued industrial radiographer certificate - Ability to achieve Level I or Level 2 certification in alignment with NAS 410 standards, through education, training, and testing, and perform the required Level 2 requirements
- Preferred education and experience: Associate s Degree
- Discipline/Major: Technical school or an applicable skilled trade program
- Knowledge, skills & abilities: Technical expertise. Problem-solving skills. Time management skills. Manual dexterity.
- Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
- May need to stand for long periods of time.
- Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
- May be requested to work a different shift.
- Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
- This position is Safety-Sensitive.
