Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Coach and Teacher

School: Hamburg High School

Positions: Assistant Girls' Basketball Coach, Assistant Soccer Coach, History Teacher

School Year: 2026 - 2027

In addition to meeting the responsibilities of a teacher, the assistant coach shall provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in the sport assigned. Contribute to the education program as a whole and the growth of students involved in athletics.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Arkansas teaching license or enrolled in an approved Arkansas program for adding licensure
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
  • Coaching license from ADE or coaching credentials from AAA
  • Possess a CDL with proper bus driver certifications or MUST obtain a bus driving CDL within the first year of employment
  • Understanding of teaching and the duties of a teacher as an educational leader

Essential Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate relentless commitment to the academic achievement of all students.
  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff; encourage their active involvement in decision‑making.
  • Communicate and promote expectations for high‑level performance from students; hold students accountable and recognize excellence and achievement.
  • Articulate a clear direction for all students and staff; present a positive image of the school district.
  • Use various instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve student‑athletes' abilities in the assigned sport.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  • Work with other school staff members to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student‑athletes.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and regularly.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student‑athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all AAA rules.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and make changes based on findings.
  • Accompany and supervise student‑athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports, including out‑of‑town trips.
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations about academic scholarship requirements and recruiting practices.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and trips off school property, following the athletic and student handbook.
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
  • Administer classroom and its program in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets/inventory within the program.
  • Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.
  • Other duties assigned by the principal or athletic director.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of rules; ability to instruct and supervise student‑athletes.
  • Attend all athletic events in assigned sport(s) and show interest and support for other athletic and academic events.

  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
  • Frequent district wide and statewide travel.
  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
  • Outdoor exposure to sun and heat.
