- Teaching classes in Municipal Surveying, Route and Construction Surveying, Adjustment Computation, and Introduction to Engineering.
- Working closely with K‑12 and 4‑year transfer institutions to enhance and promote STEM fields.
- Developing technology for classroom presentations.
- Advising students and communicating effectively with students and staff.
- Participating in professional meetings, workshops, student recruiting activities, and committee work.
- Assisting in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve learning.
- Teaching assignments in various instructional settings and times, including evening, weekends, online, and off‑campus classes.
- Fulfilling all duties required by Administrative Regulation 7122 and other assigned duties.
All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students and possess one of the following:
- Master’s degree in any field of engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the above fields and a Master’s in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, or geology.
- A valid California Community College Credential.
- The equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency required).
Note: A bachelor’s in any field of engineering with a professional engineer’s license is an alternative qualification. If your degrees do not match exactly as stated above, you must petition for equivalency.
Desirable Qualifications- Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities.
- Recent work with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students.
- Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to better support minoritized students.
- License as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).
- Computer proficiency for high‑quality instruction and support.
- Effective communication skills with students and staff.
- Knowledge of equity issues in the classroom.
- Preferred degrees or experience in surveying or geomatics engineering.
- College‑level teaching experience in engineering courses with diverse pedagogies and technologies.
- Experience designing innovative teaching methodologies based on engineering education research.
- Curriculum development in emerging engineering areas.
- Adaptation of instruction for varied learning styles, including distance learning.
- Course budget administration, including selection of computers, software, and lab equipment.
- Contribution to instructional program operations at the department, division, and state community college levels.
- Enthusiasm for teaching and student success.
- Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
178 duty days per year.
Salary and BenefitsStarting annual salary: $71,054 – $106,970 (based on education and experience). Annual doctoral stipend: $2,419. Fringe benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and CalSTRS membership.
