Job DescriptionHigh School English Teacher
The Palestine‑Wheatley School District operates on a four‑day school week with Mondays off. This position is for a High School English Teacher.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in education with a concentration in English, English Language Arts, or a related field
- Demonstrated understanding of teaching and the duties of a teacher as an instructional leader
- Eligibility to hold a valid Arkansas teaching license in English/ELA as issued by the Arkansas Department of Education
- Must meet all certification and licensing requirements of the Arkansas Department of Education, and the Palestine‑Wheatley School District for teaching.
- Any alternative qualifications deemed acceptable and reasonable by the Board of Education
Principal
Job GoalTo plan for and deliver an effective English Language Arts instructional program while fulfilling assigned coaching responsibilities, in compliance with administrative direction, applicable laws, state and federal regulations, and Palestine‑Wheatley School District Board of Education policies.
Essential Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities- Implement the district’s English/ELA curriculum aligned with Arkansas state standards and Board‑approved instructional frameworks
- Work collaboratively with administrators and colleagues to support the District’s educational philosophy, goals, and policies
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal mandates, including special education, Section 504, and affirmative action requirements
- Establish and maintain a consistent instructional schedule and an orderly, productive classroom environment
- Deliver all Board‑approved instructional programs with fidelity
- Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments and maintain accurate records
- Analyze assessment data and collaborate with administration to develop instructional adjustments and improvement plans
- Maintain instructional standards that support graduation requirements and post‑secondary readiness
- Develop and implement procedures that promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Support district discipline policies while maintaining instructional integrity and student safety
- Plan and coordinate student recognition activities when appropriate
- Administer all required state and district assessments as assigned
- Establish and maintain high expectations for student behavior and academic performance
- Submit required reports and documentation in accordance with district procedures
- Provide orientation and academic support for new students
- Supervise paraprofessionals, aides, or volunteers when assigned
- Collaborate with peers to deliver instructional services and support student success
- Assist with classroom security through adherence to established safety and emergency procedures
- Maintain effective communication between school, home, and community
- Foster and maintain a positive school climate
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Principal
