Job Description
This position is responsible for providing instruction and support designed to prepare students for current and future success. The Agriculture Teacher provides high-quality instruction aligned to District curriculum and Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V). The teacher develops and leads a comprehensive agricultural education program integrating classroom instruction, Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs), and leadership development through National FFA Organization.
The Agriculture Teacher prepares students for postsecondary education and careers in agriculture, food, and natural resources (AFNR) while promoting agricultural literacy, technical skill attainment, industry certification, and employability skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Curriculum and Instruction
* Teaches District-approved agricultural curriculum daily and implements school and district curricular goals aligned to AFNR career pathways.
* Develops and implements rigorous lesson plans, demonstration plans, and instructional materials that reflect current industry standards and best practices.
* Carries out lesson plans through developmentally appropriate learning experiences in classrooms, laboratories, shops, greenhouses, land labs, and other agricultural facilities.
* Establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicates expectations to students.
* Provides individualized and small group instruction to differentiate for diverse student needs.
* Guides the learning process toward mastery of learning objectives and curriculum goals.
* Develops and administers content-specific assessments (formal and informal) to assess student competency levels.
* Progress monitors academic, social, and behavioral growth; communicates student progress regularly with students and parents/guardians.
* Integrates Science of Reading awareness and/or proficiency, as applicable, into instruction.
* Fully participates in school wide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives.
* Maintains accurate, complete, and legally compliant student records and documentation.
* Ensures continuity of instruction by preparing detailed plans and materials for substitute teachers.
* Takes all reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, livestock, and facilities.
* Responds appropriately to emergency situations and directs concerns to appropriate personnel when necessary.
II. Professionalism
* Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
* Consistently models effective and productive soft skills with students, colleagues, families, and community stakeholders.
* Maintains professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, alumni, advisory committees, and community partners.
* Actively participates in grade-level, content-area, CTE, and district collaborative teams.
* Participates in prescribed professional development programs and activities, including but not limited to RISE training and required state CTE updates.
* Attends area, state, and national agriculture and CTE professional development meetings and conferences.
* Follows all federal, state, district, and school policies and procedures.
* Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of the school's agricultural education program and overall CTE initiatives.
* Performs other duties as assigned by administration.
