ResponsibilitiesThe instructor will provide instruction in Communication Arts on the Fresno City College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations and will be responsible for:
- Teaching a full range of classes appropriate to the Communication discipline including, but not limited to: public speaking, interpersonal communication, argumentation, persuasion, group communication, and other courses offered by the department;
- Communicating effectively with students and staff;
- Using technology solutions in the classroom;
- Participating in appropriate professional meetings and workshops;
- Participating in the extracurricular activities in the department;
- Teaching forensics courses;
- Assist in coaching a comprehensive program of intercollegiate forensic activities;
- Recruiting forensics students;
- Preparing competitors for contests;
- Hosting intramural forensics contests;
- Weekend travel to tournaments for the purpose of chaperoning, coaching, and judging;
- Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
- Participating in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning;
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus, and large group instruction classes as needed; may include off-campus instruction at local high schools for dual enrollment;
- Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
- Other duties as assigned.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and
- Master’s in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication or organizational communication; or
- Bachelor’s in any of the above and master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English;
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
