Essential Functions
  • Teach Automotive Technology/Advanced Technology Vehicle (ATV)/Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) curriculum, including engine repair, diagnostics, maintenance, shop safety, transmission, chassis systems, hydraulic and air brakes, steering, axle systems, electrical systems, emissions, air conditioning, and smog check license preparation.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff and advise students.
  • Assist in course and curriculum design, program review, and instructional aid development using Canvas LMS or OEM LMS.
  • Develop and teach short-term courses such as smog certification, brakes and alignment, electric vehicles, and zero-emission vehicles.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring the instructional budget.
  • Participate in recruiting activities, professional meetings, workshops, and department, college, and district committees as needed.
  • Engage in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning.
  • Teach in diverse instructional settings, including evening/weekend, online, off-campus, and large group instruction as required.
  • Perform all instructor duties required by Administrative Regulation 7122 and any other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to diverse student backgrounds with an equity-minded approach.
  • Preferred credentials:
    Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of full-time equivalent professional experience;
    Associate degree and 6 years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or a valid California Community College Credential; or an equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency required).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into the classroom and instruction.
  • Recent work with diverse student populations, including African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students.
  • Willingness to examine and improve instructional practices to better support racially minoritized students.
  • Strong automotive/diesel/MDHD truck/transit bus training, including engine repair, hydraulic/air brakes, electrical systems, transmissions, differentials, suspension, alignment, air conditioning, and emission systems.
  • Experience with zero emission technology/advanced technology vehicles.
  • Computer proficiency and experience with LMS platforms.
  • Professional automotive associations membership and APR Technician ASE Master certification (A series) or equivalent.
  • OEM training experience with 2010 emission standard vehicles (GM, Stellantis, Ford, Subaru, Toyota, Honda, MDHD).
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship/local union programs in Central California.
  • Teaching experience at the community college level and strong communication skills.
  • Potential to contribute to institutional vitality and growth.
Conditions of Employment

178 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits

Starting annual salary ranges from $71,054 to $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. Fringe benefits include medical, dental, vision coverage for the employee and dependents, life insurance, and membership in CalSTRS.

Selection Procedure
  • Initial screening by Human Resources for completeness and minimum qualification compliance.
  • Candidates meeting minimum qualifications and submitting all required documents are reviewed by the selection advisory committee.
  • Interview schedule:
    First level interviews week of 03/02/2026; final interviews week of 03/16/2026.
  • Interview process includes teaching demonstration, written prompt, and committee rating.
  • Recommended candidates forwarded to Vice President and College President for final interviews and approval by the Board of Trustees.
