Overview
History Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) Fresno City College. This posting has been created to establish an applicant pool for part-time faculty positions. Applications will be reviewed by members of the hiring department when vacancies arise.
Responsibilities- Teaching a part-time schedule of History courses as assigned.
- Using a variety of pedagogies and integrating instructional delivery systems including technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
- Communicating effectively with students, faculty and staff.
- Using effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, in alignment with approved curriculum outlines of record.
- Evaluating student progress through tests, examinations, assignments, oral responses, etc., in keeping with course objectives.
- Providing course syllabi to students and maintaining classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
- Submitting all required grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
- Other duties as assigned per Administrative Regulation 7122.
All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students, and show equity-minded practice in the classroom. The following qualifications are required:
- Master’s in history; or
- Bachelor’s in history and Master’s in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science or ethnic studies; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion affect participation and outcomes.
- Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to better engage and support racially minoritized students.
- Experience with student populations across cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds; experience with underrepresented students and foster youth.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction and student success; ability to use computers and other technologies for high-quality instruction.
- Experience teaching United States History, World Civilizations or Western Civilizations at the Community College or University level.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and the community college mission and goals.
- Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
- Salary placements are based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
- Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
