Summary
The Accounting Intern supports the Accounting Department's Continuous Improvement initiative by assisting with daily accounting operations and leading automation and reporting optimization efforts. This role is designed to increase departmental efficiency by reducing manual processes, improving financial reporting tools, and supporting timely invoicing and reconciliation activities. The intern will gain exposure to inventory/cost accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, financial reporting automation, and ERP-based reporting systems while contributing measurable operational improvements.
CoreFunctions Daily Accounting Operations
- Perform daily inventory subledger review.
- Prepare journal entries under supervision.
- Assist with month-end balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support job closing and financial data validation.
- Improve and automate consolidated reporting tools.
- Enhance Corporate Budget vs. Actual reporting files.
- Incorporate advanced Excel formulas, Power BI, or SQL where applicable.
- Reduce manual preparation time through automation.
- Conduct weekly review of un-invoiced order lines.
- Develop automated tracking files integrated with Epicor BAQ queries.
- Assist in identifying and documenting root causes for invoicing delays.
- Consolidate approximately 70 reconciliation files into streamlined templates.
- Develop automated monthly balance pulls with checklist controls.
- Improve standardization and audit readiness.
- Free up approximately 40 hours per week of accounting personnel capacity.
- Document process improvements and provide recommendations.
- Build portfolio of financial reports and automation tools.

Key Measures of Success- 50% reduction in un-invoiced orders greater than two days old.
- Reduction of 20+ manual accounting hours per month through automation.
- Delivery of redesigned, automated un-invoiced order tracking file.
- Accurate completion of journal entries and reconciliations.
- Improved financial reporting efficiency and usability.
- Demonstrated collaboration with plant operations teams.

- Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools.
- SQL knowledge.
Familiarity with ERP systems (Epicor preferred).
Work is performed in an office environment. This role will routinely utilize standard office equipment to perform the core functions listed in this job description. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies as well as communicate verbally and electronically. The work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive reading to perform the core functions listed in this job description.
