Brunel has an exciting opportunity for an Operational Improvements Lead supporting our client who are a leading mining company.
This contract position will work remotely with business travel to New Orleans, Louisiana.
Drives operational excellence and transformation in the NOLA Capital Project Design Office by consulting with stakeholders, identifying inefficiencies, and developing and implementing process improvements in alignment with organizational objectives. This role leads cross‑functional initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and strengthen operational resilience while fostering a culture of continuous improvement through effective stakeholder engagement, data‑driven decision‐making, and standard best practices implementation.
Essential Functions:- Coordinate with functional and project stakeholders to identify operational improvement opportunities and develop improvement initiative execution plans to promote the culture of continuous improvement.
- Lead cross‑functional improvement initiatives through scoping, design, and implementation leveraging data to support metric‑based decision making.
- Consult with functional managers and subject matter experts to plan and refine improvement initiative design.
- Develop and document processes, procedures, and guidelines to support improvement initiatives.
- Develop training material and host training sessions to facilitate implementation of improvement initiative across project office functions.
- Coordinate with senior management to develop and maintain improvement initiative priority and strategic vision alignment.
- Nature of work:
Leads the design and delivery of improvement initiatives in the NOLA Project Office to achieve operational efficiencies and excellence. Work involves implementing integrated solutions across people, processes, and tools to meet business needs. - Level of interaction:
Often collaborates with managers, functional leaders, and project execution teams and interacts with external colleagues. May require direct interaction with contractors’ representatives and other external agents. - Autonomy/decision making:
Operates with a high level of independence in executing improvement initiatives. - Budgetary responsibility:
None - Managerial responsibility:
Execute cross‑functional improvement initiatives. May oversee the work of initiative execution team members. - High School diploma or GED AND seven (7) years related operations, engineering, supply chain, construction, or project design office experience, including supervisory or management experience, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field AND five (5) years related operations, engineering, supply chain, construction, or project design office experience, including supervisory or management experience.
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to translate complex challenges into actionable plan.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to non‑technical audiences.
- Ability to successfully lead a team of indirect reports through initiative planning, development, and implementation.
- Master’s degree in a technical field
- Capital Project Design Office background with experience in Project Management, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Project Controls, or Construction
- Knowledge of best practices for Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies
- Experience leading transformation initiatives including implementation of new tools and systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Expert in conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Expert experience developing and delivering training and document writing.
- Proficient computer skills in a Windows environment (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
