Job Summary

The General Maintenance Engineer III is an entry level position, responsible for performing basic maintenance and repair activities associated with the operation of all Xanterra/Grand Canyon Railway facilities.

Schedule:

Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities
  • Understands and supports Xanterra Mission Statement, Core Values, Community Commitment, and Culture Pillars.
  • Assists in the completion of general and preventative maintenance activities, ensuring timely completion, high quality, thoroughness and cost effectiveness. This includes indoor and outdoor activities in the department that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Shift changes can occur based on the demands of the service and special assignments or projects that arise.
  • Performs basic record keeping duties and perform basic equipment data collection and recording functions.
  • Performs basic equipment repair, such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC maintenance, mechanical, painting etc.
  • Performs basic preventive maintenance duties such as filter changing, motor/pump maintenance, evaporative cooler maintenance, ice machine maintenance, etc. as it applies to the preventive maintenance program.
  • Delivers or assists in delivery of supplies and materials to various locations and departments within the company as needed and dependent upon ability to operate vehicles or equipment.
  • May transport guests and luggage as needed and dependent upon ability to operate vehicles or equipment.
  • Adheres to all safety, risk management and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Wears required personal protective equipment in performing assigned tasks.
  • Represents the company in a positive manner and minimizes the impact of maintenance activity on the guests.
  • Performs outside custodial duties; such as snow and ice removal from sidewalks and/or walkways, mowing lawns, weeding flower beds, and clearing grasses to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
  • Works various shifts as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum one year experience in general building maintenance or in trades such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or carpentry.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of rooms and hotel layout on GCR property, including general knowledge of Xanterra Grand Canyon Railway guest services with the ability to convey information to the guests is a plus.
  • A valid Arizona Driver’s License, and ability to comply with the Xanterra/GCR Company Vehicle Policy is a plus. (Must be at least 19 years of age to operate company vehicles and equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly standing, walking, balancing, climbing, twisting, eye/hand coordination, manual dexterity, handling, wrist motion, bending/ stooping, ascending and descending ladder.
  • Trunk Strength - the ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without becoming fatigued.
  • Static Strength - the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects.
  • Constantly carrying, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 10lbs.
  • Frequently carrying, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 25lbs.
  • Occasionally carrying, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 100lbs.
  • Constantly listening, hearing, seeing, and speaking.
  • Will be required to stand and walk for long periods of time on cement floors and to occasionally walk on uneven surfaces.
