ANTICIPATED RATE OF PAY: $22.25 to $25.14 hourly, dependent upon qualifications, plus a comprehensive benefits package to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System.

Position is grant-funded, with continued employment dependent upon grant funding.

NATURE OF WORK

Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in a public health setting; providing services, education, support and advocacy through public health programs to individuals, families, groups, businesses and community organizations. May perform other related work as assigned. As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. TYPICAL

DUTIES

Supports early childhood programs by improving health, safety, and quality. Focuses on areas of infection control, nutrition, injury prevention, and care for special needs via on-site assessments, training, coaching, and technical assistance to meet best practices and quality standards. Works closely with educators and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct health and safety inspections and guide programs in quality improvement plans
  • Provide direct in-person and virtual support, training, and technical assistance to childcare centers throughout Cochise County
  • Assist childcare facilities to develop policies, procedures and protocol that support best practices in health and safety
  • Collaborate with early educators, public health and community partners
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education in a health-related field such as public health, nursing, health education, social work, behavioral health, or similar degree; minimum of one (1) year of experience working in one or multiple of the following areas: mental health, behavioral health, nutrition, health education, oral health, environmental health, and/or emergency management;

minimum one (1) year of experience working in public health, healthcare, school health, or similar setting. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to be covered by county insurance.

An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to individuals with experience providing consultations and health education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of:

  • fundamental theories, concepts and methods of health education;
  • teaching and counseling methods applicable to health education;
  • public health programs, functions, and services;
  • prevention/control methods of communicable diseases;
  • basic health care practices and collection of health information;
  • the organization of health and nutrition services and referral resources;
  • the principles of adult learning and teaching skills;
  • dynamics of social interaction and behavior.

Working skill in:

  • gathering & evaluating data;
  • implementing health education programs;
  • interpreting and following policies and procedures;
  • eliciting information through interviews and collecting client information;
  • training and counseling techniques;
  • office practices and procedures to include the use of computer programs.

Ability to:

  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public;
  • follow the policy and procedure manual for the program;
  • prepare and maintain records, charts and reports;
  • applying pertinent rules and regulations required to conduct eligibility tasks;
