GIS TECHNICIAN

Navopache Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NEC)

NEC is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of an GIS Technician. NEC is situated within the White Mountains of Arizona. It is a place of beautiful scenery, mild climate and has a small community atmosphere where you know your neighbors. Hiking, hunting, fishing and other outdoors sports for fun and relaxation are all possible when you live in the “White Mountains”.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Edit, update and maintain an enterprise GIS system and drawings, maps and facilities records using automated methods and NEC approved applications.
  • Maintain and operate all GIS workstations’ hardware and software with corresponding GIS users as well as all GPS devices and users.
  • Have and maintain knowledge of operating systems (both Windows and IOS) and updates, as well as applicable software systems and applications like Map Wise. Coordinate and suggest changes in same to Supervisor of IT.
  • Digitize features from aerial imagery or scanned maps. Edit existing layers, correct topology errors and update attribute tables.
  • Document changes to GIS datasets. Check accuracy of plans, technical drawings, photographs, maps and legal descriptions and integrate within the GIS platform.
  • Perform all maintenance activities related to mapping software to ensure the continuity model remains current and GIS data remains accurate; coordinate with appropriate vendors and IT department personnel.
  • Implement automated workflows using geoprocessing tools and scripting based on company wide and/or supervisor needs.
  • Update attribute tables and review and clean datasets to reflect electric flow network within the GIS and continually maintain and improve integration with other relevant applications.
  • Occasionally conduct field investigations to verify and update mapping data as directed by supervisor.
  • Upload and correct field collected location points investigations to verify and update mapping data as directed by supervisors.
  • Know and work according to NEC’s safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Formal

    Education:
    • Associate degree with emphasis in CAD/GIS/tech related field or equivalent specialized training and experience to equal degree requirements.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum two (2) years of experience required.
    • Experience in electric utility, cooperatives and/or surveying/mapping fields preferred.
  • Special

    Skills:
    • Possess the demonstrated ability to perform standard functions in MS Office Applications and Database programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, SQL/Oracle, etc.).
    • Proficient working knowledge of ESRI or other GIS software applications.
    • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of geographic theory and its implications as it relates to the company’s GIS system.
    • Possess thorough knowledge of automated mapping system requirements.
    • Have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Be able to develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of cooperative operations, electrical plants, policies, programs, and practices.
    • Proven organizational abilities with demonstrated experience managing multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a high level of detail and accuracy.
    • Have the proven ability to work independently of others and maintain a high level of productivity.
    • Have a willingness and ability to work with other NEC employees and departments and serve on various committees, if appointed to such.
    • Be physically able to perform job functions, as well as field investigations to verify mapping data.
    • Be able to work away from reporting location multi-days and nights and attend seminars and special training classes as directed by supervisors.
    • Have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
HOURS OF OPERATION

4/10s. The cooperative is on a 4/10 schedule (Monday through Thursday).

Is commensurate with qualifications.
