Location: Rock PointJOB SUMMARY
The Special Education/Gifted & Talented Program Coordinator will coordinate the implementation of K-12 Special Education, Gifted & Talented programs, and monitor P.L. 94-142 and P.L. 105-17. The primary responsibility is to ensure individual students enrolled at RPCS have a right to equal educational opportunities and that the resource programs are implemented in the least restrictive environment for exceptional children. As a program coordinator, additional duties will include those assigned by Supervisor and appropriate to the position.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Will support and comply with the Rock Point Community School philosophy, mission, and vision statement.Will have four (4) hours Prevention of Sexual Harassment training annually.Will have two (2) hours of SCAN procedures and reporting annually.Be in compliance and maintain confidentiality and proper storage of files according to FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act).Will take the responsibilities of an absent Special Education Teacher.Prepares yearly instructional outlines, monthly and quarterly reports on current program activities for Native Star, One Plan, ESEA Section 1114, and Part B Plans. Plans programs that cover processing of referrals, compliance reviews, staff training, parent training, parent conferencing, testing and assessments, and attending required periodic meetings at various levels.Oversees specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of the exceptional child, including classroom instruction, lesson plans, home instruction and instruction in hospitals and institutions.The Coordinator will prepare RFPs for exceptional programs which includes speech pathology, audiology, vision, occupational therapy, physical therapy, parent and student counseling, psychological services, school health services, social work services in school, transportation, eligibility, LRE, placement, student IEPs for special education and gifted and talented education.The coordinator will monitor individual programs and evaluate activities to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local guidelines.The coordinator will submit all required reports and documents as determined by the Bureau of Indian Education and CFR, will prepare all documents for ISEP count/audit, ISEP special education audits and any additional reports.Will actively participate on the Leadership Team to update NASIS, Native Star, One Plan, Advance ED, etc.Coordinator assists with developing and monitoring professional development for the SPED department (workshop, study groups, courses, research, literature)Will coordinate assessment and identification of students for placement onto gifted program, utilizing federally mandated guidelines.Coordinator is to take an active role in supporting all departments and staff members at Rock Point Community School.Plan and facilitate parent involvement, child find, etc. activities for the ESS Department.Prepare student files for new students and update current student files when necessary.Prepare correspondence, forms, reports, etc., for the ESS Teachers and other department staff members.Coordinates and schedules all IEP meetings as mandated by IDEIA and maintain an updated chart/calendar of all upcoming IEPs and re-evaluations.Provides home visits to obtain parent/guardian signatures on various documents when necessary.Communicates clearly in Navajo and English with the parents to explain necessary documents.Track Exceptional Education students' attendance, transfer students, and drop-outs.Track and maintain a log of former students for two years after graduation.Interprets for parents and staff when needed.Assists in all Exceptional Education department events and activities.Oversee service provider logs, and submit purchase requisitions for services rendered.Facilitates budget development and monthly expenditure reports.Oversee physical and electronic files including purchase orders, travel authorizations, etc. and expenditures for all Exceptional Education budgets.Maintain printed Exceptional Education forms, documents, brochures, etc. as needed.Upload and Scan all documents to NASIS upon completion of meetings and file appropriately.Upload and update the daily maintenance of the local system of NASIS by inputting new student data and updates for existing students, ensure all information is current and correct.Schedule and prepares documents for meetings with diagnosticians.Assists when appropriate with related service providers; OT, PT, Speech, Vision, Hearing, Counseling, etc.Coordinate Exceptional Education transportation issues as assigned.Coordinate Exceptional Education Teachers and staff with schedule of appointments, meetings, trainings, interviews, etc.Coordinate and complete staff trip requests for Exceptional Education department.Assists classroom teachers with implementing daily educational activities, with planning and developing classroom activities based on the individual needs of the students…
