Elementary Classroom Teacher Kindergarten

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the candidate will facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, addressing specific educational needs of individual students, creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and administer school elementary curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
  • Promote a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; translate plans into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning; modify instructional methods to fit student needs, including special needs, and provide individual and small group instruction.
  • Instruct students in responsible citizenship, subject matters specified in applicable laws, and administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
  • Continue professional development by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or conducting research.
  • Organize and maintain accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies; establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed for a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Coordinate with other elementary staff, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate instructional books, aids, and supplies; maintain inventory records.
  • Supervise students in off‑classroom activities during the school day, including transportation activities.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators, as directed by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Use standard office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

Travel to district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, and ability to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation for professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Qualifications Profile
  • Certification/License:
    Arizona State Certification as an Elementary Teacher.
  • Arizona State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Master's Degree in a related area preferred.
Experience

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is a plus.
