Justice Court Clerk Trainee (JP5) – Sierra Vista

Open until filled, reviewed upon receipt, may close at any time. Anticipated rate of pay: $16.00 hourly plus a comprehensive benefits package, including membership in the Arizona State Retirement System. This position is grant-funded; continued employment depends on grant funding. All Cochise County positions require a pre‑employment background screening.

Typical Duties (Illustrative Only)- Answer routine incoming phone calls, emails, and questions from the public and court personnel.
- Sort and stamp incoming court documents; retrieve and deliver documents and files to various locations in the courthouse.
- Receive and record monies in accordance with Minimum Accounting Standards.
- Maintain accurate and complete digital and physical files.
- Collect data to maintain multiple logs and produce monthly/quarterly reports for department.
- Prepare correspondence and court notifications for mailing.
- Accept, mark, and maintain exhibits according to established procedures.
- Record court proceedings digitally and use court forms to create a record of the proceedings.
- Enter data for sentencing, dispositions, and financial assessments; process interfaces with statewide AZPOINT system.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year experience in clerical or legal clerical work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License; eligible for county insurance coverage.
Preference may be given to individuals who read, write, and speak Spanish.
Knowledge Of- Business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
- Clerical and office practices and procedures.
- Using data processing systems and other office equipment and machines.
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Apply basic math skills, including accounting/bookkeeping principles and verifying daily cash intake and balancing end‑of‑day processes per Minimum Accounting Standards.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Read, write, and speak English.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Work is primarily performed under general supervision in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls.
Physical RequirementsEssential functions require lifting, manual dexterity, and the ability to communicate. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force; frequent lifting or carrying of objects up to 10 pounds. Requires walking, standing, or sitting most of the time, with occasional pushing/pulling.
