The position is located in Sells, AZ.
Position Summary:Under general supervision, assists with the financial assets of the Tohono O'odham Nation by receiving, recording and depositing all incoming monies.
The work is normally reviewed upon completion, with occasional spot checks while in process, to ensure accuracy, timeliness and conformance to established standards; major work tasks are covered by instructions or procedures and unusual situations are referred to a supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Prints and distributes all checks including accounts payable and payroll checks.
- Receives cash or checks in payment for goods or services.
- Counts money to verify amounts and issues receipts for funds received.
- Maintains custody of the petty cash fund.
- Promotes and provides excellent customer service.
- Ensures all cash handling is properly recorded and deposited.
- Communicates programs goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Verifies balances by comparing totals on cash register with the amount of currency in register.
- Endorses checks, lists and totals cash and checks for accurate bank deposit, and prepares bank deposit slips.
- Enters deposit data into computerized module.
- Posts data and balances accounts.
- Issues itemized statements to offices and programs.
- Maintains all financial data documentation as required according to established policies and procedures.
- Maintains inventory of office supplies and equipment; performs minor maintenance and repairs; arranges for equipment maintenance and repair.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.
- Knowledge of Tohono O'odham traditions, language, history and culture.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge in records management and basic accounting procedures.
- Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping concepts, practices, polices, and procedures.
- Skill in using mathematics to solve problems.
- Skill in filing and math.
- Skill in cash management.
- Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.
- Ability to verbally communicate account procedures and policies clearly to others.
- Ability to write memos and reports clearly and concisely.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain privileged confidential information.
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma, and four years' work experience in accounting or bookkeeping, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:- Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
- May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
- If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
- Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
