DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs mineral royalty audits to ensure compliance with applicable Federal and Navajo Nation laws, regulations, lease terms, and policies. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting audits of mineral production, disposition, and sales to verify accurate volumes and values used for royalty reporting and payment
- Ensuring compliance with lease-level obligations, including lease rentals, minimum royalties, and scholarship payments
- Performing audits under a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Department of the Interior and in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS / Yellow Book)
- Researching, compiling, and analyzing mineral, production, and financial data
- Preparing audit plans, risk assessments, schedules, and audit work papers
- Drafting engagement letters, issue letters, audit summaries, audit reports, and Orders to Pay
- Preparing monthly reports and following approved audit workplans, audit programs, and federal and internal audit manuals
- Performing additional duties as assigned, including compliance reviews, desk reviews, and other tasks supporting Navajo Nation, federal, Division, and Department requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field which includes Twenty-four (24) college credit hours in accounting or auditing
- Incumbents in this classification must meet qualification standards and must perform duties in accordance with Government Auditing Standards issued by the Comptroller General of the United States. Incumbents must also meet the qualifications set forth under the General Audit Standards of the Cooperative Agreement
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Ability to perform audit duties in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book)
