- At least 18 years old.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Or enrolled in a minimum of two years of child development coursework approved by state licensing requirements.
- Experience working with children and at least two seasons as a Y Camp Counselor or as a counselor in a comparable program.
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and experience working with children.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Ability to deal effectively with inappropriate behavior and recognize hazard situations.
- Monitor and train staff to ensure effective implementation of programs and activities. Ensure staff adherence to all policies and procedures. Coach and train staff in providing a quality camping experience.
- Plan and oversee the implementation of a variety of camp activities; ensure activities are age‑appropriate and contribute to the overall growth and development of the campers.
- Identify, address, and redirect/correct inappropriate behavior.
- Ensure appropriate behavior of campers and staff to avoid the risk of accidents.
- Maintain effective communication with parents/guardians regarding camper and camp activities.
- Embed the GPY commitment to diversity and inclusion, no matter race, color, creed, or gender identification.
