To supervise, assign and review the work of staff responsible for park maintenance activities; to oversee and participate in all work activities; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
- Assist in the implementation of goals and objectives for park maintenance services; apply approved policies and procedures
- Establish schedules and methods for providing park maintenance service; identify and review resource needs with management; allocate resources accordingly
- Maintain logs and records on program activities and operations
- Provide responsible staff assistance to the division manager; prepare and present staff reports and other correspondence.
- Supervise the spraying of herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers
- Attend group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of park maintenance
- Participate in the selection of staff; coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures
- Assign, supervise and review the work of staff responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s parks and related facilities
- Inspect construction and maintenance activities of park grounds and facilities
- Ensure the maintenance of park facilities including tennis courts, athletic fields, playground equipment, park facilities and the swimming pool
- Oversee the mowing of grass; planting and trimming of trees; scrubs and flowers; and laying of sod
- Other such duties as assigned or requested
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED
- Two year technical or Associate Degree preferred
- Minimum of four years increasingly work‑related experience in maintenance and repair of park grounds and facilities preferred, including some lead supervisory responsibility
- Valid Driver’s License
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within one‑year, commercial certified applicator of pesticides license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within one‑year, certified pool operator’s license.
- Knowledge of operations, services and activities of a park maintenance program
- Modern and complex principles and practices of maintaining park grounds and facilities
- Ability to supervise, organize and review the work of lower‑level staff
- Schedule and coordinate the activities of a park maintenance program
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (oral and written).

- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Policies and procedures relevant to Parks and Recreation are understood, followed, and modeled for other employees.
- Effective relations exist with co‑workers as well as with the public and complaints are resolved in a timely manner.
