You

Will
  • Ensures the safety of patients, staff, and visitors who come in contact with the powerful magnetic field of the MRI scanner.
  • Screens patients and other personnel entering the MRI scan room for contraindications before they are exposed to the magnetic field.
  • Ensures information and data entry accuracy while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Maintains accurate patient records, ensuring the integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPPA") and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
  • Receives and identifies patients using appropriate criteria before performing the study ordered.
  • Guides patients through a process that may be difficult at times by kindly explaining the steps and answering their questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and processes.
  • Position patients and coils on the MRI table in the correct orientation and close to the area of interest, following established protocols, using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
  • Sets appropriate technical parameters, operates MRI scanners and related equipment, reviews computer monitors for image data quality, and takes appropriate corrective steps.
  • Guides, monitors, and communicates with patients during the exam, which may take 30 minutes to two hours or more to complete.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to life-threatening situations.
  • Notates the referring physicians’ instructions/diagnosis and relevant patient medical history into RIS and scans appropriate forms as required.
  • Routinely checks scanners and related equipment for safety issues and cleanliness. Reports safety issues to the manager or MR specialist and cleans equipment as needed.
  • Keeps MR exam rooms and dressing booths clean and adequately stocked with supplies.
  • Follows all safety procedures for self, patients, visitors, and equipment.
  • Produces high-quality diagnostic images on time while providing excellent patient care.
  • Treats patients and customers, including family members or care providers, who may accompany the patient courteously, professionally, and respectfully.
  • Monitors patients’ well-being during scans; recognizes patient discomfort or medical problems and takes appropriate action.
  • Understands and uses the imaging parameters and technical adjustments available on the equipment to produce high-quality images.
  • Checks patient history and obtains appropriate signed waivers, if necessary.
  • Consult with a radiologist when necessary to determine the appropriate scanning procedure.
  • Completes all paperwork and exam reports associated with technical procedures on time.
  • Responds to physician questions and needs regarding patients and assist with interventional procedures as needed.
  • Checks referral for appropriate study based on patient history.
  • Assures the room is ready before the patient entering it (i.e., equipment is operable, all supplies are readily available, and the room has been appropriately cleaned and prepped).
  • Handles delicate and unexpected situations in a supportive and empathetic manner (“good bedside manners”) while maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding exam outcomes or potential issues.
  • Keeps patient schedule and accommodates add-on patients when requested.
  • Communicate delays or changes in the schedule to the appropriate person(s).
  • Exercises sound judgment regarding image quality, seeks guidance from radiologist if concerned about what scan reveals, and obtains prior approval before doing additional scans/views to diagnose the patient’s possible…
