This role is for a Traveling Dental Assistant at West Coast Dental Services.
West Coast Dental Services Provided Pay RangePay is based on skills and experience.
Base Pay Range$25.00/hr - $28.00/hr
Position SummaryThe Dental Assistant performs a variety of dental assisting duties while promoting a safe and clean environment for providing quality dental care. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting the doctor; communicating effectively with patients (or parents if patient is a child); maintaining equipment and inventory; cleaning, sterilizing, and packaging instruments; and following standard universal precautions, OSHA and HIPAA requirements, and dental board auxiliaries’ regulations.
EssentialDuties/Responsibilities
- Open and close the back office as instructed.
- Prepare trays and operatories for various procedures.
- Ensure that operatories are stocked and cleaned at all times.
- Greet and seat patients as soon as possible and notify the Doctor (check that the operatory is clean and disinfected before seating a new patient).
- Check for patients’ signatures on the Health Questionnaire and Informed Consent Form.
- Assist the Doctor during various procedures and rotate with the Doctor as requested; in accordance with all State and Federal regulations.
- Accurately document patient care activities in the chart as directed by the doctor and Company policy.
- Explain treatment plans to patients as needed.
- Escort patients to front office area for dismissal when treatment is completed, and inform the receptionist about the next visit(s) to schedule.
- Disinfect general back office areas, including operatory.
- Apply disposable barriers in and around operatories where needed.
- Clean, sterilize, and package dental instruments.
- Prepare lab cases.
- Turn off all equipment nightly, including the vacuum and compressor.
- Ensure that handpieces are properly cleaned and oiled.
- Follow-up with the lab and maintain the log on partials and remakes.
- Review the Hazard Communication book and sign the training log.
- Ensure that hazardous products are properly labeled.
- Follow waste disposal procedures for Sharps and contaminated material/chemical.
- Maintain compliance with state and Federal infection control standards, including wearing protective barriers, disinfecting and sterilizing instruments, and disposing of contaminated or bio‑hazardous waste/materials.
- Follow-up with lab and maintain log on partials and remakes.
- Check next‑day appointment schedule for all lab cases and verify readiness; if not, reschedule the patient.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and team huddles.
- Other duties as assigned by the Office Manager, Regional Manager, and/or Dentists.
- Minimum one year of recent experience as a Dental Assistant preferred.
- Current X‑ray License required.
- Certificate from an accredited Dental Assisting School preferred.
- Bilingual:
English & Spanish required (if the geographic location does not require bilingual, applicants who speak only English may be considered). - CPR and First‑Aid certification preferred.
- Infection Control Certificate required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with people of all ages (e.g., Children).
- Strong interpersonal and relationship skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and multitask.
- Maintain an outgoing, friendly attitude with patients and coworkers.
- Handle interruptions and manage multiple priorities.

The Dental Assistant will be notified of the work schedule on a weekly, bi‑weekly, or monthly basis. The schedule is subject to change (daily/weekly hours may increase or decrease). Evening and weekend hours may be required. The position is paid hourly.
