Outreach and Events Coordinator – Independent Contractor (Central Wisconsin)

Clark, Green Lake, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Portage, Shawano, Taylor, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood Counties
Primary Focus Regions: Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Waupaca, and Wausau
Estimated Time Commitment:
Average of 10-15 hours per week (fluctuates based on agreed upon deliverables).
Compensation:
Hourly ($18 - $20
) to be outlined in a separate Independent Contractor Agreement. Compensation is based on deliverables and services rendered; hours are not guaranteed.
Project Overview
DSAW is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and related disabilities and their families through programs, services, education, outreach, and community connection.
DSAW seeks an independent contractor to support event planning, fundraising support, and program facilitation in Central Wisconsin. This role is event-focused, with additional responsibility for coordinating and facilitating grant-funded daily living skills workshops, sessions, and series through community-based partnerships, hosting guest speakers, or via direct facilitation.
The contractor will work independently while coordinating closely with designated DSAW staff, volunteers, and community partners to achieve defined outcomes.
Scope of ServicesEvent Planning & Implementation
- Plan, coordinate, and execute family events, fundraising events, and community engagement activities throughout Central Wisconsin
- Lead logistics including facilities, vendors, supplies, permits, and materials
- Coordinate volunteers and provide on-site event support
- Send event communications, reminders, and follow-ups
- Support major fundraising initiatives, including walks, tournaments, and regional fundraisers
- Participate in planning meetings and maintain event timelines
- Be available during event days and the weeks leading up to major events
Community Outreach & Relationship Building
- Represent DSAW at community events, and outreach opportunities
- Build and maintain relationships with families, community partners, and local organizations
- Support expansion of DSAW visibility and engagement in Central Wisconsin
- Collaborate with DSAW staff on regional outreach strategy
Program & Daily Living Skills Support
- Coordinate partnerships, guest speakers and/or facilitate community-based classes, workshops, and series on topics of daily living skills and independence (e.g., social skills, life skills, independent living, puberty, relationships, friendships, financial literacy, etc)
- Assist with curriculum implementation and basic adaptation to meet participant needs
- Serve as a primary point of contact for participating families during program series
- Support scheduling, space coordination, supplies, and basic safety considerations
- Collaborate with DSAW program leadership to align offerings with regional needs
Administrative & Communication Support
- Respond to event- and program-related inquiries
- Coordinate event inventory, supplies, and storage as needed
- Promote events and programs via email and social media in collaboration with DSAW staff
- Provide post-event or post-program summaries when requested
- Successfully planned and executed events and programs
- Timely completion of agreed-upon milestones and deliverables
- Consistent and professional communication with families and partners
- On-time distribution of event and program communications
- Post-event or program summaries as requested
Schedule & Work Method
- Contractor retains sole discretion over the manner and means of performing services
- Contractor determines work schedule consistent with deadlines and deliverables
- Work may be performed remotely, in the community, or on-site at events
- Workload will fluctuate seasonally
- Experience in event planning, community outreach, or program coordination
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities strongly preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
