Operator - Parking

The City of Appleton is currently accepting applications for a vacancy in Public Works. Work involves inspecting meters for damage, making minor repairs to meters and performing custodial functions. Work will also involve collecting money from parking meters and ramp pay machines, maintenance of meters and equipment, cleaning, and snow removal (inside and out) of ramps and lots. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parking Utility Manager.

• Collects and secures revenue from ramp pay machines, meters, and pay stations; prepares funds for pickup by contracted courier services.
• Inspects, maintains, and installs parking meters, including battery replacement, jam clearance, and on-site repairs. Installs and removes meters, posts, and signage.
• Performs custodial duties in parking facilities including sweeping, trash removal, and cleaning of stairwells, elevators, common areas, and restrooms.
• Operates maintenance equipment such as sweepers, snow blowers, pressure washers, and utility vehicles to maintain clean and safe facilities.
• Installs, replaces, and maintains signage in ramps, lots, and public areas to ensure accurate, accessible information.
• Provides snow and ice removal, including shoveling, snow blowing, and applying salt or melt materials.
• Maintains regular, punctual attendance and is available for scheduled overtime, call-ins, and emergency response.

• Assists in comprehensive coin collection, including unlocking vaults, sorting/verifying coin counts, and preparing deposits.
• Supports repair and maintenance of parking infrastructure including signage, pay equipment, and minor plumbing and electrical fixtures.
• Replaces lighting and conducts general upkeep such as painting, patching, and sealing surfaces.
• Assists during special events, outages, or emergencies by setting up temporary signage and responding to field issues.
• Participates in cross-training and may perform parking enforcement functions or other duties as assigned by the Parking Utility Manager.

Some experience repairing small mechanical equipment such as coin-operated machines, and training beyond high school in a related field preferred. Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Understanding of materials and methods used in mechanical equipment repair.
• Skill in troubleshooting and repairing small mechanical devices.
• Proficient in the use of hand tools and operation of maintenance equipment.
