Description
This position is 32 hours per week and is benefit‑eligible. No weekends or holidays.
Hours- Monday: 6:30 AM - 11:30 AM
- Tuesday: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
- Wednesday 1: 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM
- Wednesday 2: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM
- Thursday: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
- Friday 1: 6:30 AM - 12:30 PM
- Friday 2: 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM
- Friday 3: 6:30 AM - 12:30 PM
- Friday 4: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM
The Medical Laboratory Scientist accurately and efficiently performs a full range of laboratory testing to include pre‑analytic (specimen collection and processing), analytic, and post‑analytic processes. Ensures accuracy of test results in all areas of laboratory testing and reports findings to providers. They are also responsible for maintaining result records and quality control.
Duties and Responsibilities- Processes and analyzes blood, urine, and other specimens following Primary Care Associates policies and procedures.
- Applies critical thinking to ensure quality in all phases of laboratory analysis.
- Reports lab results electronically, verbally, and through written documentation.
- Reports STAT specimens in a timely manner.
- Identifies and reports problems and records corrective action taken. Recognizes and communicates deviations in technical, quality of specimen, or quality control processes to ensure accurate results. Develops quality control theory methods and process improvements.
- Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting on all laboratory equipment. Assists with method validations and implementation of current and new instruments and assays.
- Performs visual preventative safety inspections on all equipment.
- Records and reports dangerous department or equipment conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned area.
- Answers phones and takes messages or routes call to appropriate party.
- Maintains professional acumen through professional organizations and educational programs.
- Speaks to callers, patients, physicians, other staff and anyone they interact with during their assigned work hours in a polite, courteous, understanding manner that projects Primary Care Associates interest in providing high quality customer service.
- Completes assigned duties in a timely, accurate manner.
- Appropriately documents quality control processes and quality assurance as required. Statistically analyzes data and develops protocols for QC actions.
- Maintains regulatory compliance by assisting with policy/procedure writing and review to satisfy requirements (COLA, CLIA, etc.). Establishes procedures and techniques for maintenance, inspection, and use of new equipment and assays.
- Demonstrates a team spirit through cooperative, supportive professional work relationships.
- May assist with collection of blood, urine, and other specimens following Primary Care Associates policies and procedures.
- Provides training for new lab team members. Signs off on moderate complexity testing competency assessment for lab team members.
- Complies with company policies and procedures.
- Maintains a regular and reliable level of attendance.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Bachelor's Degree (BA, BS) from a four‑year college or university in a lab related field; or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current certification from an accrediting agency (ASCP, AMT, NCA)
- Current CPR certification
- Proficiency utilizing computer including Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Experience utilizing Epic software is recommended.
- Laboratory generalist capabilities in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, molecular studies, and coagulation.
- Knowledge and competency in appropriately using laboratory equipment; including testing, quality control, calibrations, and maintenance.
- Pleasant and effective communication skills.
- Ability to work well with all customers of Primary Care Associates.
- Ability to prioritize and work efficiently.
