The Manager of Accounting serves as the organization’s primary contact for all accounting matters and provides oversight of financial operations. This role leads the accounting team, ensures accurate and timely general ledger entries, manages efficient month end closing processes, and provides complete budget variance analysis. The Manager of Accounting supports the development of the annual budget, oversees the year end audit, and drives the creation, support and enhancement of accounting systems, processes and reports to support organizational goals.
Additionally, this position is responsible for managing company cash flow to ensure operational efficiency and financial stability.

- Lead, mentor and develop an efficient, high performing accounting team. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Leads regular one on one meetings with accounting staff, prepares performance reviews and subsequent goals for direct reports.
- Oversees monthly general accounting operations to ensure a timely, accurate, and complete month end close.
- Responsibilities include reviewing and reconciling accounts to the general ledger; preparing or directing the preparation of adjusting entries, accruals, and supporting schedules; reviewing staff work; and providing guidance on proper transaction coding and procedural corrections. The Accounting Manager also conducts weekly team meetings to monitor ongoing issues, assess prior close results, plan for future close cycles, and escalates critical matters to the Director of Finance as appropriate.
- Prepares monthly Budget Variance Analysis, independently investigating and resolving variances, escalating difficult-to-resolve issues to the Director of Finance.
- Manages annual audit process and serves as the primary point of contact with audit staff to ensure all work papers are prepared and delivered to the audit team.
- Oversees sales tax compliance including managing third‑party sales tax service vendor relationship, identifying Sai nexus and sales tax obligations for multiple taxing authorities, and reviewing sales tax preparation by accounting staff for accuracy.
- Assists Director of Finance with preparation of annual budget and quarterly budget expense review meetings with budget owners.
- Maintains accounting systems, processes and reports to ensure accurate and timely preparation of accounting transactions and monthly results.
- Manages cash flow needed for operations and resolves all Positive Pay and ACH payment exceptions.
- Reviews AP invoices prepared for entry for correct coding, approval Text?, documentation, and sales tax. Reviews and approves check run requirements, approves EFT payments and prenotes, AP void transactions, and credit card statements prepared for input into AP.
- Reviews open credits that should be refunded and processes unclaimed property.
- Maintains affinity relationships payment processing and reporting. Follows up with staff regarding any gaps in payments from vendors.
- Assists other staff with accounting transaction issues and reports.
- Participates in manager meetings as appropriate and supports analysis needed as part of strategy implementation and operations.
- Prepares ad hoc analysis and reports for the Director of Finance or other members of the Senior Leadership team as requested.
- Takes initiative to analyze existing accounting processes and systems to identify inefficiencies and risks. Proactively researches, recommends and implements approved changes to improve automation, accuracy, and scalability.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. Prior public auditing experience required.
- Proven track record of leading a team and driving process improvement initiatives.
- Strong technology skills and advanced Excel experience.
