Civil Engineer – Construction Focus

Mid‑level or higher civil engineer for the City of Appleton, Wisconsin.

• Assist in preparing the capital budget and five‑year plans.
• Create plans and specifications for streets, sidewalks, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water main projects.
• Review construction plans and specifications prepared by other engineers.
• Conduct investigations of engineering problems.
• Coordinate with survey crews, inspections, and technicians.
• Communicate with property owners, utility companies, and other stakeholders.
• Direct and coordinate contractor work.
• Prepare feasibility studies, environmental statements, design investigations, grant applications.
• Prepare GASB financial reports and other relevant reports.
• Apply to the Corps of Engineers, DNR, DOT, and other agencies for permits and approvals.
• Maintain contact with the public and coordinate right‑of‑way acquisition, utility relocation, and owner relocation.
• Attend and present at public meetings about public works projects.
• Maintain regular punctual attendance; work overtime and extra hours as required.
• Review subdivision plats, CSMs, and site plans.
• Review utility plans.
• Assist in inspection and general office work on bridges.
• Assist in design and renovation of sanitary and storm sewer lift stations.
• Evaluate and update sewer system maps.
• Maintain records of public works construction.
• Attend seminars and classes to stay informed about industry developments.
• Assist with budget preparation.
• Prepare state and federal funding applications for projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Relevant experience and knowledge of land & engineering survey systems, techniques, and methods.
• Knowledge of construction materials and safety standards related to structural designs and specifications.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, and GIS software.
• Strong abilities and skills described above.
