Service Description

Camp Ehawee’s Environmental Education Coordinator will be responsible for leading garden and nature-focused programs for girls attending Summer Camp as they complete the badge requirements for each week. The Coordinator will lead activities such as planting, harvesting, and guided hikes. This Wis Corps member will provide meaningful experiences for girls as they teach and guide them through a nature-based curriculum.

Service Time

May 19 – August 14, 2026 (450 hours total, 40 Hours/Week)

Benefits

Living stipend total for the whole term = $6,500 ($500 per week). An Ameri Corps Education Award of approximately $1,900 will be awarded upon successful completion of service.

Onsite housing and meals are provided by the placement site. Living onsite is a requirement for this position.

Responsibilities Programming
  • Lead and implement the garden Girl Scout badge curriculum at Camp Ehawee.
  • Lead nature center programs and hikes on-site.
  • Supervise campers’ participation in structured and unstructured outdoor activities.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the health and safety of campers.
  • Help campers follow directions and rules.
  • Teach the skills necessary to help campers live comfortably in the camp setting and promote a sense of responsibility toward the preservation of natural resources.
  • Help each girl learn to respect the rights of others and the environment, and to appreciate herself and others.
Career Exploration/Conservation Skills
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the Camp Ehawee garden.
  • Construct and maintain gardening trails for easy access for individuals of all abilities.
  • Remove and dispose of non-native plants and re-vegetate native plants.
  • Restore and improve area ecosystems as assigned.
  • Supervise and assist with nature center cleaning, sanitation, and the care of supplies and equipment.
Camp Support
  • Participate in pre-camp staff training.
  • Keep records, create reports, and return completed paperwork on time.
  • Comprehend and implement emergency procedures through regular practice drills.
Housing and Meals
  • Camp Ehawee provides on-site, camp dormitory style housing.
  • Members should be prepared to live with roommates in a communal setting.
  • Occupants are assigned rooms by Girl Scouts staff and may be placed in units with a shared living room, kitchen (with some pots, pans, plates, and utensils), and one or more bathrooms.
  • A laundry facility is available onsite.
  • Three meals per day are provided by Camp Ehawee in a dining hall.
  • Members must inform staff of any required accommodations or housing preferences.
  • Camp Ehawee is located less than 20 miles from Onalaska, WI, which has a grocery store and other amenities.
Trainings Offered
  • Member will be certified in First AID/CPR/AED at Camp Ehawee.
  • NOLS Wilderness First Aid training will be provided by Wis Corps.
Qualifications
  • At least 18 years of age
  • A citizen of the United States, a United States national, or a legal permanent resident of the United States
  • Experience in teaching, guiding and working with children
  • Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scouts program and to enroll as a Girl Scout member
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs
  • Willingness to be outside in seasonal inclement weather conditions including heat, sun, rain, and high winds.
  • Ability to withstand the physical demands of work which involves some lifting, carrying, bending, and hiking across uneven terrain, often in the presence of biting insects
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to multitask and shift schedule and priorities to meet changing conditions
  • Upon hire, a criminal background check will be conducted. Service with Wis Corps will be considered probationary until all results are returned and have been reviewed
