AVR, a McNamara Company, is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. Key responsibilities include accounts payable, maintaining the general ledger, supporting month and year-end closing, assisting with account reconciliations, processing journal entries, and ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements. This position plays a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting overall financial health for the organization.

- Support with day-to-day accounts payable.
- Prepare and file sales tax and other regulatory returns in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines for multiple entities.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare and post journal entries ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
- Assist with monthly account reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
- Process weekly, monthly, and yearly intercompany invoicing.
- Assist with the fixed asset system including capitalization, depreciation, and disposals.
- Provide billing and cash receipts recording, and month-end accounting for various divisions.
- Ensure accounting records are organized, complete, and compliant.
- Recommend and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in Accounting or Finance required;
Bachelor's degree preferred. - 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g. Viewpoint, or similar ERP).
- Experience with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and other functions).
- Knowledge of job costing and construction project accounting is a plus.
- Familiarity with fixed asset management and tax compliance.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and with external vendors/clients.
