Staff Accountant

AVR, a McNamara Company, is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. Key responsibilities include accounts payable, maintaining the general ledger, supporting month and year-end closing, assisting with account reconciliations, processing journal entries, and ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements. This position plays a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting overall financial health for the organization.

• Support with day-to-day accounts payable.
• Prepare and file sales tax and other regulatory returns in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines for multiple entities.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Prepare and post journal entries ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
• Assist with monthly account reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
• Process weekly, monthly, and yearly intercompany invoicing.
• Assist with the fixed asset system including capitalization, depreciation, and disposals.
• Provide billing and cash receipts recording, and month-end accounting for various divisions.
• Ensure accounting records are organized, complete, and compliant.
• Recommend and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and accuracy.
• Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

• Associate degree in Accounting or Finance required;
  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g. Viewpoint, or similar ERP).
• Experience with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and other functions).
• Knowledge of job costing and construction project accounting is a plus.
• Familiarity with fixed asset management and tax compliance.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate across departments and with external vendors/clients.

This position offers a starting range of $31.00 – 36.00 per hour with a bonus potential of up to $5,000 depending on experience.
