. This role can be remote, hybrid, or in-person
, depending on candidate location and availability.
The Technical Designer will partner closely with Design, Production, and Sourcing to execute fit, construction, grading, and technical development from concept through bulk approval.
While this role offers flexibility in work location, it requires periodic travel to our headquarters in Apex, NC for fittings and key collaboration milestones, as well as overseas travel as needed for factory visits, fittings, and production alignment.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the technical fit expert for swimwear, establishing and maintaining fit standards, measurement protocols, and construction guidelines.
- Create and manage detailed swimwear tech packs
, including specs, grading, construction callouts, BOMs, and “how to measure” pages. - Establish base size measurements and grading rules specific to swimwear silhouettes, fabrics, and support levels
. - Lead and conduct fit sessions on development and PP samples, evaluating fit, balance, stretch, recovery, support, and comfort.
- Communicate clear, actionable fit and construction feedback to overseas factories and follow through on revisions.
- Partner cross-functionally with Design, Production, and Sourcing to ensure swim styles meet quality, fit, and calendar requirements
. - Review and approve samples through all stages of development to bulk, ensuring production-ready execution.
- Maintain seasonal swimwear body standards and ensure consistency across styles.
- Support quality control standards, including testing requirements specific to swimwear (stretch, recovery, colorfastness, lining, elastics, etc.).
- Provide technical input on fabric selection, trims, elastics, linings, and construction methods appropriate for swim.
- Attend key fittings, milestone meetings, and overseas factory visits as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Technical Design or related field.
- 7–10+ years of technical design experience
, with significant swimwear experience required
. - Strong background in swimwear patterning, fit, grading, and construction
. - Deep understanding of swim-specific materials, elastics, linings, and performance requirements.
- Highly proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel for spec’ing and grading.
- Experience with 3D technical design tools is a plus.
- Proven ability to work independently in a contract/freelance capacity while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and solutions-driven.
- Comfortable traveling domestically and internationally as needed.
