Pay:
Starting at $49.92 per hour (up to $55.47 per hour). Compensation typically increases within the first two years of successful performance and proven mastery of skills.

The Centralized Mechanical Heavy Overhaul Teams provide internal expertise to maintain our large, geographically dispersed industrial mechanical systems. CAP seeks a highly skilled, highly motivated industrial mechanic to provide journeyman‑level technical expertise in the performance and support of this vital function.
Heavy Overhaul Mechanic responsibilities include preventive maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy industrial mechanical equipment used in pumping plants, generating stations, check structures, turnouts, and other CAP facilities. The role ensures equipment is safe, mechanically sound, and operating efficiently to provide reliable water deliveries. Occasional in‑state travel, Mondays‑Thursdays, is part of the job.
Why this Job is Awesome?As a Heavy Overhaul Mechanic, you will work on a 336‑mile long jobsite, having your fingerprints on every piece of moving equipment at CAP, from pumps and radial gates to hydraulic turnouts and underground siphons. Keeping this equipment running is critical to delivering water to the state of Arizona.
QualificationsA driver’s license with a good driving record, a high school diploma or GED, and three or more years of journeyman‑level experience are essential. Completed state‑approved apprenticeship is preferred.
Additional qualifications include strong working knowledge of hydro‑electric generating and pumping systems, hydraulic systems and controls, troubleshooting ability, proficiency in safe use of tools and equipment, precision measuring and testing, fabricating, welding, calibrating, machinery alignment and leveling, reconditioning, maintenance, and repair in an industrial mechanical environment. Knowledge of industrial safety requirements, including hazardous energy control protocols, is essential.
