General Purpose

The Staff Occupational Therapist Assistant assists the Staff Occupational Therapist with patient-related activities and direct patient care.

Essential Duties
  • Treat patients as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Record daily treatment notes and weekly progress notes per OT Board requirements.
  • Implement the physician's treatment plan for patients.
  • Assist the nursing department with training Restorative Aides.
  • Communicate with supervisors and other healthcare team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.
  • Participate in in-service training programs for other staff in the facility.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including evaluations, daily treatment notes, weekly progress notes, and recertification documentation as per Occupational Therapy Board regulations and other payers' requirements.
  • Record and communicate treatment changes in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Educate patients' families or nursing staff on maintenance programs and provide caregiver training in preparation for discharge from therapy services.
  • Participate in discharge planning.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining the treatment area.
  • Report any issues with department equipment to ensure it remains in good working order.
  • Build positive relationships with patients/residents, families, staff, and professional colleagues to facilitate effective communication and care delivery.
