Overview
This position has oversight of the Fitness, Sports and Aquatics programs at the installation. The primary purpose of this position is to plan, manage, and administer a comprehensive, year-round fitness, recreational sports, and aquatics program, and the associated facilities used in conducting these programs. Programs serve active duty, reserve, and retired military; their family members; civilians; and other authorized customers.

Program Management (65%):
Plan, organize, develop, implement, and manage a diverse and comprehensive fitness, sports, and aquatics program and related facilities. Coordinate with city, state, other military bases, and pertinent organizations; promote health/wellness; ensure advisory bylaws/philosophy understood; conduct meetings and events; maintain participation records; interpret data and adjust programs; prepare APF and NAF budgets; monitor contract services and perform quality assessment and evaluation;
perform local needs assessments; coordinate with marketing for promotions and sponsor ships; assist local Command Fitness Leaders with Physical Readiness Tests; recruit and manage volunteers and instructors; maintain records for recognition; review research publications to stay current with methodology; ensure program meets industry standards (Cooper Institute, DoD, ACSM, etc.).
Facility Management (10%):
Coordinate use and maintenance of facilities (gym, fitness centers, pools, fields, tracks, etc.); assist with construction requirements; liaise with Naval Facilities Engineering Command and Safety Office; develop five-year facility improvement program; submit work orders; manage inventory and assets; ensure safe, healthy, and adequate facilities.
Supervisory Duties (25%):
Direct staff such as Fitness Coordinator, Sports Coordinator, Aquatics Coordinator, Fitness Facility Coordinator, Outdoor Maintenance Supervisor, and others; assign work; conduct annual performance reviews; participate in staffing decisions; ensure proper training; address disciplinary/performance issues; support EEO policy and equitable treatment.
Conditions of employment

- Professional certification from a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) accredited health/fitness organization.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid certification.
Qualifications
Combination of experience related to customer service and activity based functions
- Knowledge of physical fitness program principles, exercise science, strength conditioning, nutrition, weight loss/control, cardiovascular endurance, exercise requirements and projected results.
- Knowledge of bio-mechanics, fitness testing and exercise prescription; familiarity with strength training equipment, nutrition, programming and testing equipment.
- Skill in planning and executing a comprehensive fitness, aquatics, and/or sports program.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology as related to exercise and fitness; knowledge of military physical fitness standards and testing procedures.
- Knowledge of factors that impact training, performance and recovery of individuals and team sports.
- Ability to perform the full range of supervisory duties.
- Knowledge of CNIC's EEO policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of NAF and/or APF budgeting processes and ability to prepare budgets.
- Skill in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge of safety, fire and environmental regulations and procedures.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations and/or training.
- Skill in developing and adapting new methods for effective management of a fitness program.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Marketing, Business or closely related field and/or equivalent recreation related work experience.
