Archaeological Field Technician

Stantec is currently recruiting for three part-time on-call Archaeological Field Technicians to work out of our Central Pennsylvania office and three near our Hampton, Virginia office for future projects throughout the country. Successful candidates should be located within commuting distance of these offices.

• Survey transects up to fifteen miles in length daily
• Record and delineate archaeological sites
• Complete archaeological site forms, sketches, logs, and other paperwork
• Excavate shovel test pits, test units, trenches as needed
• Identify and describe soil profiles, artifacts, and features
• Organize, process, and inventory artifacts

• Excellent written, oral, and computer skills
• Ability to exercise professional discretion and judgment
• Interpersonal and communication skills
• Periodic travel, including international travel, required
• Must work in remote project locations for extended periods; valid driver’s license with a clean record required
• Drug screening required

• BA in Archaeology or Anthropology
• Completion of archaeological field school or at least one year of professional archaeological experience
• Experience in Mid-Atlantic archaeology and archaeological survey preferred
• Experience with archaeological forms, soil horizons, cultural features, and artifacts

• Stand, walk, sit, talk, hear frequently; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl occasionally
• Lift/move up to 50 pounds; walk up to 15 miles daily in rough terrain
• Specific vision abilities required
