Staff Nurse - Observation Unit at Luminis Health

Position Objective:
Contributes to the provision of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare as a provider of direct and indirect patient care and by effective collaboration with the health care team. Functions as a competent member of the health care team.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Decision Making/Judgment
  • Demonstrates clinical nursing knowledge and skill in the unit’s specialization
  • Applies the nursing process effectively for culturally diverse patients and families; utilizes applicable laws, policies, standards, guidelines and evidence-based practice in patient/family care
  • Organizes and reprioritizes patient care activities based on changes in condition and environment
  • Assesses patients consistently to collect data and identify learning needs according to established standards
  • Analyzes assessment data to develop individualized problem lists
  • Develops and individualizes a plan of care for each patient with appropriate prioritization and goals
  • Implements the plan of care in accordance with standards, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Demonstrates proficiency in medication administration, pain management and unit- or initiative-specific skills
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of care plans and revises as needed based on patient responses
  • Nurse-Patient/Family Relationships: assesses learning needs, readiness to learn, learning style, and barriers to learning
  • Develops, implements and evaluates teaching plans for patient populations in the unit specialty
  • Applies knowledge of growth and development across the life span to patient care
  • Delivers direct patient care to patients and families in a culturally, developmentally and ethically appropriate manner
  • Plans care that addresses physical, psychosocial, spiritual and learning needs of patient/family
  • Participates in quality improvement (QI), CPI and risk management at unit, department or organizational levels
  • Supports use of evidence-based guidelines and organizational policies to promote safe patient care and a safe practice environment
  • Participates in unit shared governance and in the education/orientation of new staff
  • Delegates and evaluates delegated patient care activities; uses real-time computer documentation for patient records
Educational/Experience Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Adherence to Luminis Health credentialing requirements as stated in nursing bylaws
  • Where applicable, BSN required within 5 years of date of hire
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure by the Maryland Board of Nursing
  • BLS – American Heart Association Health Provider
  • If serving as a bilingual/multilingual interpreter, certification in Medical Interpretation is required to perform duties of a qualified interpreter
Departmental/Other Requirements
  • PALS Requirement:
    Required for Pediatrics Unit, Postanesthesia Care Unit, Endoscopy, Procedural Care Unit, Interventional Radiology
  • ACLS Requirement:
    Required in Heart/vascular, Neuro, ICU/IMU, Interventional Radiology, PACU, ED, and several other units including Observation Unit
  • Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification:
    Required within 6 months of hire if experienced, or within 1 year for new graduates (Oncology Unit)
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Requirement:
    Required in Mother and Baby, NICU, L&D, and Women’s Surgical Unit
  • BLS Requirements:
    As specified for multiple departments (see job posting for details)

Pay Range

$34—$54 USD
