System Administrator - Linux

Primary Responsibilities- Quickly responding to IT Help Desk calls and emails in a professional manner; ensuring issues are resolved and/or escalated to the appropriate teams; and following up with teams and users to ensure issues are satisfactorily remediated.
- Identifying, troubleshooting, and correcting hardware and software issues including network connectivity.
- Utilizing enterprise monitoring solutions to identify alarms that have been triggered against the various environments.
- Proactively contacting customers when infrastructure processes are significantly delayed or may impact their ability to complete a business function on time.
- Executing the process for managing information assurance vulnerability alerts (IAVAs) and system security scanning for equipment suites in accordance with the System Security Plans for these systems to rapidly and accurately identify and remediate IAVAs.
- Initiating IAVA responses and system security scans, completing remediation, and extending IAVA patches and security updates on various IT and network systems.
- Providing technical assistance to companion work groups in support of overlapping projects such as implementing IT enhancements and optimizing systems.
- Maintaining good inter‑departmental relations, communicating with users, and publishing status of system outages.
- Participating in the creation and ongoing maintenance of documentation to ensure clear, concise and accurate information is readily available to assist with incident resolution.
- BS degree in a technical field and at least 8 years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be substituted for a degree.
- Must have at least 3 years of direct, hands‑on experience providing assistance to users in an IT customer service capacity.
- Must have at least 3 years of experience working on an IT/software program that utilizes complex equipment/systems (ex. Network Switches, Routers, LANs, & cabling, Windows/Linux operating systems, VMware, etc.).
- Must have experience installing, updating, and upgrading Linux Operating Systems (OS).
- Must have experience with utilities used to manage Linux OS disk file systems.
- Must have experience analyzing and implementing Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements in Linux OS.
- Must have experience with utilities used to create and configure network connections in Linux OS.
- Must have experience implementing Windows Active Directory User Authentication in Linux OS.
- Must be proficient in reading and modifying User/Group permissions in Linux OS.
- Must be proficient in reading, analyzing, and troubleshooting errors within Linux OS.
- Must have experience with IT system optimization, monitoring, and technical set‑up and troubleshooting.
- Must have experience with Data Center design and configuration (e.g. rack and stack, power, placement, etc.).
- Must have experience gathering data for and documenting technical processes.
- Must have experience documenting IT issues and providing detailed and comprehensive status reports and follow‑ups.
- Must have experience analyzing and addressing IAVAs/CVEs (response and remediation, system security scans, extending IAVA patches and security updates on IT and network systems, etc).
- Must be committed to adopting and adhering to best practices including compliance with maintenance windows and change control procedures.
- Must possess strong analytic abilities and must be meticulous and careful in their work.
- Must be an independent thinker capable of working independently as well as within a team.
- Must be able to respond to emergency system administration, operations, and maintenance problems, on a limited as‑needed on‑call basis.
- Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time to local program locations (not overnight). Additional travel to CONUS and OCONUS location(s) may also be required (overnight).
- Experience with security standards, software architectures, and Network security technologies (Multiple Domain, PKI, SSP, Vulnerability Assessment, etc.).
