This role is on a hybrid schedule based out of our Charlotte, NC or Bethesda, Maryland offices.
The Assistant General Counsel, Technology & Intellectual Property, will deliver practical, solution‑oriented legal advice with prudent efficiency in order to support and enable an advanced, innovative, secure, and compliant technology, data, and innovation environment that powers differentiated and personalized products, services, and customer experiences at start‑up speed, while proactively anticipating legal and regulatory issues related to intellectual property, technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data that may affect Ally in the future.
The Assistant General Counsel, Technology & Intellectual Property, will report to the Associate General Counsel, Technology & Intellectual Property, and join a team of experienced lawyers that supports Ally’s Technology, Risk, and Compliance functions, and its various Business Lines.
The Work Itself- Synthesize information to which you are exposed in the course of your duties to identify and connect related concepts, processes, objectives, and people in order to prioritize and focus on enabling Ally’s initiatives and objectives that offer the best risk‑adjusted return.
- Drive awareness of legal concepts related to the activities and objectives of the functions and Business Lines supported, while delivering advice that is solution‑oriented and distilled to what the internal client needs to make the most informed decision, together with any potential risk mitigation options.
- Structure, review, and draft policies, processes, procedures, and other documents and communications in connection with Ally’s intellectual property, technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data‑related issues, matters, initiatives, and strategies, and related Legal operations and activities.
- Monitor for, analyze, and communicate pertinent details and thematic concepts of new or amended laws, rules, regulations, supervisory guidance, and regulator feedback.
- Identify, interpret, and advise on legal, regulatory, and transactional issues, obligations, and risks that arise or may arise in connection with Ally’s activities and initiatives.
- Serve as a trusted and valued legal adviser to the Technology function, including its Information Protection and Risk Management, Artificial Intelligence, and Tech Strategy groups, as well as the associated Risk and Compliance functions, and Ally’s various Business Lines, as Ally builds platform‑centric solutions, creates seamless and innovative customer experiences, harnesses data to drive real‑time and self‑serve analytics, protects and fosters a resilient technology infrastructure, and builds its portfolio of patents and other intellectual property.
Skills You Bring
- Strong academic record and a JD from a reputable law school, with an active state bar membership in good standing. Technical background or current or past registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, would be nice to have, but are not required.
- 7+ years total experience required.
- 4+ years experience advising on the legal and regulatory considerations associated with intellectual property, technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data issues, matters, initiatives, and strategies.
