Patient Access Associate – Emergency Dept – Annapolis

Responsibilities- Patient Identification and Documentation:
Greet patients and visitors courteously and professionally; accurately identify patients in the Master Patient Index to reduce erroneous duplicate records; update demographics per legal identification; verify information on armbands before placing them; document signatures and handle consents per process. - Patient Registration and Insurance Verification:
Conduct face‑to‑face interviews to obtain and process patient demographic and financial information; maintain a minimum 97% accuracy rate for registrations; handle real‑time eligibility messages; forward self‑pay patients for Medicaid eligibility; scan required documents; resolve insurance verification issues and inform patients of options, including financial assistance. - Regulatory Compliance and Customer Service:
Ensure patients receive required regulatory information and enter appropriate documentation in the EMR (HIPAA, Patient Rights Brochure, etc.); explain hospital policies and financial responsibilities; provide excellent customer service. - Appointment Scheduling:
Schedule appointments, surgeries, and other procedures according to patient and provider preferences; verify insurance coverage and obtain pre‑authorizations as needed. - Financial Communication:
Communicate financial responsibilities; collect funds per established protocols; refer patients to Charity Care and Medical Assistance when needed. - Workflow Management:
Answer and direct incoming and external calls; prioritize work and manage the queue; correct errors in accounts using appropriate tools; meet performance and productivity standards. - Meeting and Training Participation:
Attend departmental meetings or review videos; attend required in‑person training and complete educational assignments; respond to emails during each shift. - Adherence to Policies:
Arrive on time, maintain appropriate attire, minimize personal electronic usage, and adhere to hospital policies and the RISE values. - Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Manager, or Supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 0–11 months of direct Patient Access or healthcare registration experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, families, and clinical teams.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high‑paced healthcare environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
- Compassionate, patient‑centered approach to service delivery.
- Must obtain Certified Patient Access Specialist (CPAS) certification within 8 months of hire.
Light work: exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently; reasonable accommodations may be made under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
