Base pay range: $70,000.00/yr - $90,000.00/yr.

Summary/Objective: The Sr. Operations Accountant is responsible for designing and implementing internal controls, developing SOPs, performing and overseeing complex account reconciliations, and managing all company payroll, including review and approval of payroll postings. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in operational accounting, expertise in internal controls, and proficiency in payroll management.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee all payroll operations to ensure accurate and timely disbursement of wages, salaries, bonuses, and other compensation in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage payroll tax compliance, including timely filings, payments, reconciliations, audits, and the opening/closing of state and local accounts as needed.
  • Review and approve payroll journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger postings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to monthly and year‑end schedules.
  • Direct year‑end reporting processes, including the preparation, review, and distribution of W‑2 and 1099 forms.
  • Maintain and enhance payroll systems, ensuring data integrity, security, system upgrades, and process improvements in coordination with HR, Finance, and IT.
  • Monitor payroll‑related financial data, labor costs, and benefits expenses to support budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
  • Coordinate payroll funding and cash flow planning with Finance, ensuring timely disbursements and compliance with obligations.
  • Perform and oversee complex account reconciliations (bank, intercompany, balance sheet, AP/AR), investigating and resolving discrepancies to ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Design, implement, and monitor internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets, enhance efficiency, and ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and operational leaders to align payroll, benefits, and workforce data with broader organizational goals.
  • Serve as primary liaison with external auditors, payroll providers, tax agencies, and insurance brokers, ensuring timely responses and compliance reviews.
  • Lead payroll and finance‑related projects, including system implementations, process redesigns, and policy updates, while staying current on industry trends and regulations.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop payroll/accounting staff, fostering accountability, professional growth, and operational excellence.
  • Manage collection and tracking of vendor and contractor Certificates of Insurance (COIs) to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

Additional Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.
Special Skills
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday, etc.).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to manage teams and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Experience with multi‑state payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • In‑depth knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and payroll regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing SOPs for accounting and payroll functions.
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
Certifications
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field.
